It’s Time to Look up, Hook up, Tee up and Fill up
Pull out that wool sweater and favorite pair of jeans and get ready to fall in love. Just because the temperatures begin to drop does not mean you will run out of things to do. St. Germain comes alive in the fall.
Take a moment and look up at the sky. As your head leans back, you will notice how before getting to the brilliant blue sky, your eyes will pass the most amazing reds, breathtaking oranges and warmest of yellow leaves on the trees. With the temperatures returning to normal in the Northwoods our trees are becoming magical once again. One of the most scenic drives will take you from Highway J to Woodruff, providing ample spots to awe you.
There are many trails you can explore if a brisk hike is what you are looking for. St. Germain is known for some of the most serene hiking trails. For those looking for a smaller trail, try the Awassa Preserve and Hiking Trail. Newly acquired by the town of St. Germain. This trail offers a .5 mile to a a 2.1 mile loop. Stroll through mature oaks, maples and pines and keep your eyes open for the abundance of wildlife in St.Germain. Chances are you will see a deer or two watching you as you make your way through their home.
Shannon Lake Trail
With a mix of easy to beginner and intermediate loops, roughly half the trail runs through areas logged in 1976 and 2000. The loop around Shannon Lake is especially scenic. The rest of the gently rolling trail meanders through a variety of northern hardwoods. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the stillness around this non-motorized lake.

This trail is a must no matter if you are hiking or biking. Where else will you find over 45 miles of a paved trail that takes your through forests, lakes, wooden bridges and offers you every opportunity to see most every type of wildlife? This trail begins in St. Germain and will take you all the way to Manitowish Waters. If you are biking Go North, will shuttle you to your destination, making it easier to see the sights without having to make that round trip. Musky fishing is at its peak in the fall months. It’s not uncommon to hook a forty or fifty incher and have a story to tell for a lifetime. Seeing the awe inspiring magic nature gives us takes on an entirely different aspect from the water. St. Germain is home to many great Musky Guides that give you that extra chance to hook the “fish of a thousand casts”. Find your guide by using this line.
